War Zone

In his writing, War Zone, Ku expressed his frustration of not being able to learn English well and his struggles with racist attacks from others. As students with different backgrounds, did you also have the same struggles? if not, what kind of struggles did you have and how were you able to overcome it?

  1. I struggled in understanding American English. I didnt even understand half of the english at the time when I moved here and thats why I use to remain quite and boring at many occasions but later on I started pcking up and realized that I cant be like this. Once I started to learn I made friends and today many of my friends think that I was born here but thats not the case. Its just the urge in a person to learn and once its sparked everything seems easy.

  4. I never experience from special racist attack, well but somehow exclusion from the White "cool kids" when during high school, i usually hung out with my Asian Fds instead, I think the white people do not really like us since our life style are different as well. SO for learning Eng, I am still not very good at it, I think i am being so lazy, I should read more and spend more time on my study in order to master the language.
For hardship, maybe the inconvinence in this country. Before I got my car, the city requires u to take a bus aroudn because you cannot always walk! And places close so early!! So i have to eat early, have limited choice, and need to drive!! :D

  5. for me, the language learning was the most challenging while studying in the U.S; for the first one or two years in america, I was frustrated with me and others as well; I wasn't sure if I would be able to speak english fluently and make American friends. It took me more than 2 years to live in America without asking for language help
