International WOMYN'S Day

From Moe D:

Why was the rally spelled WOMYN instead of WOMEN? Is it to abbreviate
something?

  1. Because the are refusing to use the word "man" or "men" in the term used to describe their gender. They are doing it as a way to identify themselves as completely independent from men. I believe this is just a special way that women want to describe themselves as a separted part from men.

  2. I did not attend the rally but my own understanding that rally intended for female to honor and celebrate the continues achievement that they acquire completely independent from men.

  3. I asked one of the women that was holding a megaphone at the march, and she said that it was because linguistically and historically the term "women" shows subordination to men.

Also, the usage of "my" is used in terms of women (ie: polygamy meaning multiple wives) and "thy" is used for men (ie: polygathy meaning multiple husbands).

  4. I would have to say the same as everyone else that the spelling of woman has man and it shows subordination to men and by spelling it womyn it doesn't

  5. To stress the important achievements of women that were independent from the influence of the male species.

  6. Wow. I never knew that they took that into consideration. I think that's pretty cool that they came up with such an idea.

  7. the subordination theory sounds quite convincing; and I think the way the word changed to Womyn is genius! I wanna know whose idea it was to do that
