UCLA Video Rant

From Margarita:

Being in an Asian American class how has the UCLA video rant affected you or
someone you know? Asian or not, do you feel offended?

  1. It didn't really affect me or anything and I didn't really feel offended because I'm used to hearing people make fun of our race like that.

  2. I admit the video did make me a little upset because she was making generalizations about Asians based on nothing but personal accounts. However I realized that it's just a video and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

  3. For me, I wasn't offended. She was being ignorant and is suffering the consequences of her actions. Her generalizations have nothing to do with me in particular. I was more offended by her appearance than by what she said.

  4. I wasn't particularly offended at all the rant was really just something she did in the heat of the heat of the moment. I kinda feel bad that she has to go through heck cause of it, but she was dumb for posting it on youtube.

  6. In the very beginning of the video, I thought that she made a very valid point that it was rude for Asians to pick up the phone in the library because I have experienced this first hand at our own De Anza library. The moment she started mocked our languages, said that we were bringing everyone from our country to the dorms, and said that we couldn't fend for ourselves was when she crossed the line. Not only is this stereo-typing all Asians, but it is disrespectful. I heard that she dropped out of UCLA and I think that she deserved it. Even if you feel strongly about something it doesn't give you the right to make fun of them and post it on the internet. She should have gotten expelled for her mistake.

  7. I was not particularly offended, I understand where she's coming from about being rude in the library. I do not think she's a racist nor was she trying to purposely offend any particular people. I just think she was angry at the time and that she doesn't know much about the asian community so she just said the stereo-types that she knew about.

  8. At the beginning of the video i wasnt really offended but more enterrained about this girls stupidity. Why should anyone take offense to someone dumber than themselves?

  9. I felt a little offended because she was talking about Asians in a negative way. I do not think that people should threaten her life. She realized that she did a bad thing and I do not believe she should be punished anymore than she already has been. She has a right to get a good eduacation, dont we all have freedom of speech? She just needed to find a better way to express how she feels in a less public way.

  10. I hear comments like the ones made in the video all the time. And most of the the times it's from my friends making jokes and what not. I don't really mind since they're my friends and know they're just fooling around. But when I saw the video I have to admit that it did make me pretty angry. I think the fact that I didn't know her personally and that she acted all "high and mighty" and thought she knew what she was talking about made me angry.

  11. Honestly I was not offended by that video because she was just very airheaded so I did not take her comments seriously. Although I am Asian American, her video and countless other videos (and people in our every day lives) that target Asians, they don't bother me because every person of every kind has different pro's and con's. Everybody has their own view on different people. She just chose to make her opinion public.
