UCLA Student's Racist Rant

Just yesterday, a video was posted of a UCLA student who ranted in the video about "Asians in the library". The video went viral in a matter of hours, receiving hot responses from viewers who simply put this as a "racist rant".

The girl talks about Asian students who talk on their phones in the library, claiming that they should use "American manners". She states that Asians parents don't teach their children to fend for themselves and we rely heavily on family member to do our work. She tries to classify herself as smart by saying she does "political science theories and arguments", but after stereotypes the all Asian languages into "Chingchonglinglongtingtong", proving how ignorant she is about different cultures. She even refers herself as being a "nice polite American girl her mother raised her to be". Do nice polite people American girls make racist videos and post them to the public? Then she even rudely brings up the recent tsunami in Japan out of nowhere, showing indecency. How do you feel about this?

Some people have gone and found her phone number, address, and personal information and sent her hate mail and death threats. People have even found her classes that she will be taking finals for and are planning to go there and protest against her. Others have taken a different action by bringing this to UCLA's attention, hoping they will do what is right sine she goes against the UCLA Student Code of Conduct. How do you think people should handle this matter?

For those of you who have not seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9785ryOlg8 (If the link doesn't work, I'm pretty sure you can type in "UCLA Racist Rant" or "Asians in the library".)

  1. I think the White girl is mean, she is racist because she uses a disrespectful attitude toward Asian and complain the student's family of "invasion of her territory". Well, in general the Library situation was arguable, Asian student who make noise should behave, however, there should be some white students or other students in ethnicity have the same mistake, she should not target Asian students in this situation, based on her dis-like to Asians.

  2. I can't that she did this, did she not think of the consequence before hand. If she was raised with manner, she wouldn't do this. Is she jealous that other student is getting help and she is not?
I can that people are mad but this world should not reply hate hate, it just cause the problem to get worst.

  3. I honest to goodness wanted to tear my hair out when I saw this. What she said was so offensive and hurtful. Not to mention incredibly insensitive and disrespectful to people who suffered and are continuing to suffer from the earthquake, "tsunami thing", and nuclear plant meltdowns. I just watched the video a few minutes ago and am so in shock that someone would actually post something like this.

  4. I personally didn't like the fact that she posted the video and it really shows no thought process because obviously she was going to get harassed if she posted it on youtube. However I don't think it is right to harass her or insult her because then it would be basically other people doing exactly the same thing back.

  6. I didn't bother watching it because I didn't want to hear ignorance. Yes, it is appalling for someone to say thinks about a particular ethnicity. However, if we really think about it and step back for a moment, we have all at one time or another said that a certain ethnic background had their own disrespectful colloquialisms, manners, or overall attitude. Was she morally correct in attempting to achieve her 15 minutes of fame (while stupidly using her real name)? No, she is not, but because the internet is a essentially a "lawless" playground, one can say or write practically anything and everything.

The best part is that there is a response video to what she said. It is straight to the point, comedic, and it's not offensive in any way. It is simply what another Asian-American had to say about it.

  7. I was really surprised to see her post such a video up on youtube. I just think some people are so ignorant and disrespectful. Hopefully people don't think all white people are like this because they are not. I don't think she was raised with proper morals(although she thinks she is). I hope she realizes her mistakes and at least post an apology video. I also hope no one does anything stupid in anger towards her because then they'd just be stooping down to her level.

  8. WOW. I was shocked when I saw this video. At first I kind of agreed with the girl because I have experienced the same thing where some International students talk on their phones in the library. I agree that this is rude and unnecessary, but she went too far when she mocked our language and grouped all Asians together. This girl needs to be taught a lesson and I believe she should be punished by the school. I think that many people are taking this to too far by issuing death threats and trying to find out where she lives. I understand that she made a mistake, but giving death threats will solve nothing.

  9. All I have to say is that she's very ignorant by saying the things she did in the video. She is totally stereotyping and disrespecting Asian Americans.I thought the worst thing was when she talked about the Tsunami and said "oh I do feel bad for them!" to me, the way she said it, didn't sound very sincere. It didn't seem to me like she cared about what happened and she should because it's affecting not only Japan but everybody around the world. It's just sad to see how ignorant people can be.

  10. I didnt watch the video of this girl ranting about asians till yesterday in my other class, and honestly i was mad. If she is going to imitate an asian, atleast know how to say words and not make it up. I was mad that some people found the video funny because i thought it was serious. For someone who goes to UCLA she is very ignorant. She must be very proud that she was raised with "manners". I dont know what her definition of manners is but it is not this.
I dont know what kind of punishment she should receive because i know that there are still many racist people. It's hard to believe though.

  11. well.. she is so pissed at international students or Asians who talk in their languages. And when she had to focus on studying in the library, she seemed to have been outragous against Asians talking on the phone in their language. I understand that one way or the other, which we all do when we are distracted by noise. however, the way she did on tape was more of the sarcasm and hatred for the whole Asian people at UCLA

  12. I think the American girl should be kicked out of school. Like you said she obviously broke the UCLA code of conduct. I mean I can understand that she was trying to study and what not, but to then go on a rant and just go on and on with racist remarks. Just watching the video made me angry and surprised that someone like her would even get into UCLA. Obviously her momma raised her up with the wrong manners. And the issue with all the hate mail I think is totally fair. Not necessarily the death threats but really, I'm not surprised one bit that people have been sending them and honestly don't feel sorry for her. I have friends that go to UCLA that are Asian, Indian, and American and all of them have the same reaction that I do. They all want her out of the school.
