  1. All I know is that it's also called the Immigration Act of 1917. The United States Congress passed that act on 2/4/1917. This act was responsible for immigrants that were barred over the age of 16 who were illiterate. The Asiatic Barred Zone where people can't immigrate was the region that included a lot of Eastern Asia and the Pacific Islands

  2. Under this act it was expanded the "Chinese" exclusion to all of Asia, they were targeting the Japaness but also people from specific countries included Turkey, India, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Burma (Myanmar), Siam (Thailand), Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and the Philippines. These had been defined as not eligible for naturalization under the Naturalization Act of 1790.

  3. 1917: Immigration Act of 1917 ("Asiatic Barred Zone Act"). Denies entry to immigrants from the "Asiatic Barred Zone"--much of eastern Asia and the Pacific Islands. It also sets a literacy requirement for immigrants over 16 and a head tax for entry into the country; it bars entry by "idiots," "feeble-minded persons," "epileptics," "insane persons," alcoholics, "professional beggars," all persons "mentally or physically defective," polygamists, and anarchists.

  5. This act did not only deny entry of immigrants, but it added to the number of "undesirables" banned from the country. This list included those that were mentally challenged, criminals, alcoholics, professional beggars, etc. The certain part of the act that banned asians from entering the US was called the Asiatic Barred Zone. I thought this was interesting.
